Ed Clayton has enjoyed taking photos since before he can remember, but his interest in creative photography really developed when his father gave him his first SLR camera. From this point on, Ed set about capturing photos of his friends and family, and experimented with composition, light and other effects and techniques which were made available by owning an SLR.
Ed was quick to embrace the digital revolution in photography and has since enjoyed the versatility that digital SLR cameras bring. Since leaving school Ed pursued a career in the Army, rising to the rank of Captain. Throughout this time and during his travels in the forces Ed continued to enjoy photography, developing a natural flair for photojournalism. He was soon creating a name for himself as a photographer, particularly when capturing spontaneous moments between people.
Whilst Ed was halfway through a tour in Iraq, his sister announced her engagement and asked if he would photograph their friends and family at her wedding. She knew that his photos would capture everyone enjoying themselves and having fun on the day. Relishing the opportunity, Ed duly provided what was asked of him and the response from his sister’s friends was overwhelming. Ed had captured some amazing reportage images and soon after he was receiving many requests to photograph other people’s weddings.
As Ed had enjoyed applying his photojournalistic style to wedding photography so much, he decided set up a weekend business whilst he was still in the Army. It didn’t take long for the word to spread and Ed was soon turning down weddings as he was so busy. It wasn’t long before Ed decided to exchange his rifle for a camera and leave the Army to be a full time wedding photographer. Since then he has been enjoying a busy calendar of bookings and is now photographing over 50 weddings a year, in some fabulous locations including the Cotswolds, North Wales, London, Norfolk, the New Forest and even foreign destinations!
Recently, Ed has become involved in puppy walking for Guide Dogs. Onnie, Ed’s first Guide Dog Puppy, and Ed can often be seen training in the local shops. Needless to say Onnie is the subject of many photos, and is certainly not camera shy! Puppy number 2 arrives on 11 June 2009, be sure to book your consultation around then if you want to see a very cute little puppy!
Ed’s attention to detail and organisational skills, along with his ability to build a rapport with people and his photographic capabilities, means that the real essence of your day will be captured.
